Final Reflections of DESN18448
In completing this course on sustainable design practices, I have been given the opportunity to expand my knowledge of sustainable design and construction while exploring specific areas that I found personally interesting. I have established a strong foundation for the meaning behind the term ‘sustainable design’ and have been inspired to make sustainable practices a priority in my future career as an interior designer.
This course has allowed me to investigate the various dimensions involved with sustainable building and has emphasized the importance the role environmentally conscious practices have in current society. Studying sustainable design I have focused on the core knowledge behind building sustainably, learning the value of considering environmental impacts at every step of the design and construction process.
This journal specifically, has given me the freedom to explore areas of sustainable design that I found fascinating and pertinent to the future of sustainability. Researching various articles and journals, I have been inspired by projects around the world and have been able to understand the actual application of principles I studied in the classroom.
Throughout the course we have been encouraged to be leaders in our pursuit of understanding the foundations of sustainable design and its surrounding applications. Investigating innovative technologies developed to advance sustainable design practices have demonstrated to me the immensity of this field and shown me its potential to greatly evolve in the future. Sustainable design practices are an extremely prevalent topic in today’s society as our world is becoming increasingly environmentally conscious and the need to reduce negative human environmental impact is at a high.
As I continue my studies as an interior design student, I will always remember the importance of designing sustainable buildings and interiors. I hope to continue to expand my knowledge of sustainable building practices as I advance in my career, evaluating environmental considerations in every project I am part of.
